Red brush brim Katakuchi Bowl | Handmade Shigaraki Ware
Handcrafted in Shigaraki, this bowl features a small spout, traditionally known as katakuchi. With its layered glaze in earthy browns and greys, it has a warm, rustic presence that feels both functional and expressive. Katakuchi bowls are often used for serving sake or shoyu, but they are equally suited for sauces, dressings, or small side dishes at the table.

Care instructions
Before first use
To help prevent dirt and stains from penetrating the fine crackle pattern on the surface, we recommend “sealing” the dish:
-
Place the dish in a pot with rice-washing water.
-
Heat over medium heat, then lower just before boiling.
-
Simmer gently for about 15 minutes.
-
Turn off the heat and let the dish cool in the water before rinsing and drying thoroughly.
During use
-
Hand wash only with mild detergent and a soft sponge.
-
The base is polished, but avoid dragging across furniture to prevent scratches. If rough, gently smooth with fine sandpaper.
-
Before serving, soak briefly in water to help reduce staining from food oils or juices.
-
Microwave: Not suitable
-
Dishwasher: Not suitable
-
Do not leave liquids inside for long periods, as they may seep through and cause leakage.
After use
-
After washing, dry thoroughly to prevent mold and odor.
-
When storing, place thin paper between pieces to avoid scratches.
