ZED bottle opener/can opener | RED
A compact can opener developed in Japan in the 1950s, in Tsubame-Sanjo, a region known for metal craftsmanship.
Its distinctive form follows the shape of a gourd (ひょうたん),
a traditional symbol of good fortune and protection in Japan.
The rounded curves also fit naturally in the hand,
making it easy and comfortable to use.
Designed with a simple lever mechanism,
it is often described as one of the earliest examples of its kind in Japan,
helping to make opening cans easier and more accessible.
The name “Z” comes from the inventor Zenkichi Takano,
and is also associated with the final letter of the alphabet,
suggesting a sense of completeness in the design.
Still produced today, more than 60 years later,
it remains a familiar object in Japanese kitchens.
