A delightful collaboration between renowned Japanese creative unit tupera tupera and historic ceramic workshop Chugai Toen. Following their zodiac ornament series launched in 2021, this project reinterprets Chugai Toen’s signature heritage piece—the Seto Maneki-Neko—with a fresh, playful modern aesthetic.
Inspired by vintage "Ko-Seto" style beckoning cats admired at the Maneki-neko Museum, this design accentuates sharp, architectural lines and the cat's slender, poised posture. Every curve, from the contoured back to the placement of the raised paw, was thoughtfully refined through numerous prototypes.
The Japanese word *yorisoi* means "to snuggle or stay gently by one's side." When you place a right-paw cat and a left-paw cat together, their silhouettes nestle seamlessly alongside each other—created with the heartfelt wish that they quietly accompany your daily life and usher in good fortune.
