Sumitani Saburo Shoten
Metalwork from Takaoka, since 1939
Founded in the historic metalworking town of Takaoka, Sumitani Saburo Shoten has been crafting everyday tools from tin, brass, and iron for over 80 years. Drawing on traditional casting techniques passed down through generations, each piece is made to be quietly functional—objects that blend into daily life and bring a sense of calm and continuity.
Their incense holders, trays, and small home tools carry a certain stillness—a tactile connection to material and time. Not overly designed, not decorative for decoration’s sake, but thoughtfully made for use.
ZAKKAsine carries a selection from their range—pieces that we feel speak gently but clearly of Japanese long-life design.
