[What is Mashiko ware]
Pottery produced around Mashiko-machi, Haga-gun, Tochigi Prefecture. Mashiko is said to be a mecca for modern ceramic art. In 1924, Shoji Hamada settled down and built a pottery kiln, attracting the attention of not only Japan but also the world of pottery. Stone powder and old iron powder are used as the glaze, and the coloring is done with a dog brush, so it is characterized by a heavy color and a thick texture.
