EARTH Faceted Donburi Bowl | Matte Gray | L
Part of Ishimaru Togei’s original EARTH series, this large donburi bowl is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, a pottery town with around 400 years of ceramic production.
The bowl is shaped with a delicate 16-sided faceted pattern. After glazing, parts of the glaze are carefully shaved away by hand, revealing the natural texture of the clay underneath. This contrast between the matte white glaze and exposed clay gives the surface its distinctive depth and makes the finish slightly different from piece to piece.
The foot of the bowl narrows gently underneath so the fingers can sit comfortably around it when lifting the bowl. With a generous 900 ml capacity, the L size works especially well for ramen, udon and soba, as well as donburi rice dishes, salads, soups and simmered dishes.
Small variations in the glaze and surface, including iron spots and pinholes, can occur naturally during production and are considered part of the character of the pottery.
