Mashiko-yaki Mamezara – A Small Plate Rooted in Tradition
This small plate is based on the traditional sunazara (sand plate), a form that has been used in Mashiko for generations. Created in collaboration with Wada Kiln, a pottery studio that continues the Mashiko-yaki tradition, it is part of the “Kihon no Set” series—designed to bring the charm of regionally distinctive Japanese tableware into everyday life.

Thick and durable with a softly rounded shape, this mamezara carries the warm, rustic character of Mashiko ware. The glaze features subtle gradation and irregular rim patterns, adding visual depth to its compact size. Ideal for pickles, soy sauce, condiments, or small side dishes—perfect for any modern dining table.

Care Instructions
• Microwave safe.
• Due to the nature of ceramic, fine surface cracks (crazing) may develop with use. These are harmless and part of the natural charm.

Before First Use
To prevent stains in the crazing, we recommend the medome process:
• Place the plate and leftover rice water in a pot.
• Heat gently, reduce to low before boiling, and simmer for 15 minutes.
• Let cool in the liquid to room temperature.
• Rinse well and dry thoroughly.

During Use
• Avoid rapid temperature changes.
• Soaking briefly in water before use helps prevent stains and odor absorption.

After Use
• Dishwasher safe, but hand-washing is recommended for long-term care.
• Use a soft sponge and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleansers and metal scrubbers.
• Do not soak for extended periods. After washing, wipe with a soft cloth and dry well before storing in a ventilated area.

Note
• Avoid strong impact to prevent chips or cracks.
• Discontinue use if any cracks are found.
• Each piece is handcrafted. Variations in glaze, color, and form are part of its unique character.
