Kutani ware, a traditional craft of Ishikawa prefecture with a history of about 360 years, it is characterized by its colourful paintings. Traditionally, craftsmen draw pictures by hand.
Nowadays there is also a technology to produce Kutani wares by sticking a pre-printed pattern on a container like a sticker.
This series of Kutani ware plates is a combination of pattern transfer and hand painting, it creates a transparency, and depth of the layer which is the attractiveness of the outcome. The hand painted part is harmonizing the printed background and creating the texture of the traditional design.
