The Ring Stool was designed in 1955 by Tokukichi Kato (1901–1978), one of the founding members of Tendo Mokko, who also worked as a factory manager, craftsman, and later president of the company. Originally created for in-house use by craftsmen, the stool quickly became a timeless design icon.
Despite its deceptively simple structure—legs attached to a ring-shaped seat—the stool embodies the ingenuity and skill of master artisans. The seemingly slender junction between seat and legs is in fact exceptionally strong. The central hole in the seat not only contributes to its lightness but also makes it easy to carry with one hand.
The seat is upholstered in high-performance vinyl leather (All Mighty V01), finished with Tendo Mokko’s unique “Maruten-bari” (round covering) technique, which conceals seams for a flawless appearance from every angle. This synthetic leather is stain-resistant, flame-resistant, and resistant to disinfectants such as hypochlorous acid and alcohol—durable while still refined. The seat surface is gently sloped toward the central opening, ensuring surprising comfort.
Beyond its function as a stool, the Ring Stool also serves beautifully as a plant stand or as a sculptural accent piece in any room.
